Let’s face it, the whole horror films on Halloween has become a tad lame of recent. Everyone repeats the same tired crap they have for the past number of years. Well, we here at LBJBR intend on busting the mold and opening up a watch party that will become the talk of the town. These films check off all necessary viewing for anyone looking for something new. This time we dig into the Euro-horror catalog.
Don’t worry, this will only hurt a little.
Nude for Satan (1974)
edited, story by, written and directed by
Luigi Batzella
(All his films came in under budget because he never provided actresses with clothing)
starring:
Rita Calderoni as Mother Teresa: The Wild Years
(Be prepared to see more of her than you’d ever expect)
Stelio Candelli as wimpy, confused hero who drives a Beetle
(Butts in on Satan’s game. Still gets a sex scene with Rita Calderoni)
Nude for Satan set the bar high for itself from the very beginning. Could it live up to its promise? It was, indeed, a rather high bar to set but director Luigi Batzella intended to attempt.
From the very beginning, Batzella made it known what his intent was. He provided the palette for actress Rita Calderoni with which to show of her first Stanislavsky training on how to enter a scene.
Viewers of the movie will also note Calderoni would throw in a little something for the second year students as well when she turned around.
Where Nude for Satan falls woefully short is in their casting choice of Satan. When you’re thinking Satan, actors like Christopher Lee, Al Pacino, maybe Richard Burton all come to mind, not this guy.
Satan is on his phone to his agent complaining about this casting as we speak. Apparently, director Luigi Batzella blew most of his budget on body make up for the many nude scenes his actresses had to shoot that he was forced to cast the first guy who came along on the street.
All in all, the film relishes in the gothic atmosphere and sleaze with abandon. Yet, while it does drag at points, Nude for Satan remains an entertaining alternative little piece of schlock.
